Retail’s New Golden Age
The creative direction was built around the idea of Retail’s New Golden Age, an optimistic expression of an industry being reshaped by technology, new business models and changing consumer expectations.
Gold became both a literal and conceptual device across the experience. It created a distinctive visual signature while allowing the system to move between premium, energetic and highly functional applications.
Two yellows, not one. The deeper value is the full-bleed ground; the lighter one is laid over it inside a clip, and the sunburst is the ground showing back through.
Flat black, no rich build. Every line of type on the board prints from the black plate alone.
The tile bands top and bottom. A gold to bronze ramp, randomized per tile, which is what keeps the metallics from reading as one flat gold.
One system from the moment someone walked in to the moment they found the right table.
The show ran on a white-label app, so the shipped digital work was the skin and the icon set rather than the product. This is what the rest of it wanted to be: the six stage colors doing the wayfinding, the Attendee Hub icons grouped by the same five journey steps, and the printed Meetup table card picked up on the phone it already tells you to open.
Opened at the badge desk, Level 1 and Level 2 side by side Ten thousand attendees, three days and two levels of programming, distilled into six panels. Each one had a distinct role: introducing the show theme and helping attendees navigate.
Overhead directional, hung on the route to Level 2 One system guided attendees across the hall, from overhead directionals to Meetup table cards. Color established location at a glance, while clear numbering helped keep 50,000 meetings moving efficiently.
The wordmark built as architecture: freestanding letterforms taller than the people walking past them, with a mirrored sphere set into the O and the gradient running from white through gold across every face.
Mainstage, Mandalay Bay South Convention Center The Shoptalk letterforms at architectural scale, lit as gradients running from white through gold, with the repeated wordmark banding the wall beneath them. The set had to read from the back of a room seating thousands and still hold up in a close crop, because most of what leaves a show leaves it as a photograph.
The entrance arch The transformation from convention center lobby into Shoptalk. A neon arch reading THE GOLD STANDARD over the threshold, the wordmark glowing behind it, and the O built as a mirrored sphere. Past it sat the swag store, the two impact lounges and the food markets, each one an anchor point people could navigate by.
Sponsor activation on the exhibition floor Sponsor environments were designed to feel like part of the show, not additions to it. Lounges and branded spaces became useful destinations and visual landmarks, giving partners visibility while preserving a cohesive experience across 850 sponsors.
The White and Gold Party, Shoptalk Beach Shoptalk closes on a party, and a party is a design surface like everything else. The White and Gold Party took over Shoptalk Beach with Lil Jon headlining, and the dress code did most of the work. The crowd turned up in white and gold, which made the audience itself the last expression of the theme. The Mandalay Bay tower behind the stage was already lit in vertical gold, so the venue finished the set.
